OVERVIEW

Several industries, including dairies, juice concentrate, breweries, as well as pulp and paper, lose significant quantities of materials with recoverable value in their waste streams. This decreases revenue potential while contributing to excess loading in wastewater, higher treatment costs, and potential surcharges. For many production facilities, it can be difficult to pinpoint when and where spills occur because real-time information is limited. Most of these events are not large spills and therefore may take time for the operators to detect them. This makes real-time monitoring for these materials the only viable way to recapture the lost revenue potential, resulting in many beneficial outcomes including;

  • Early detection of spills or events and proactive response
  • Increased revenue from product recovery and reduced wastewater treatment costs
  • Process optimization and improved plant efficiency

DELAYED LAB RESULTS LIMIT ACTION

Manufacturing plants often rely on daily grab samples as their primary means for understanding unintended material losses into wastewater streams. Relying on a laboratory to obtain results leads to a significant time lag and the information offered is usually of little value to identify loss and improve plant performance. Plants need a solution that delivers continuous information on wastewater composition and quality to operations personnel.
